Transit Oriented Community Based Economic Development (Transit Oriented CBED) - Phase II
McCully-Mō`ili`ili (MM) is the least immediately affected by the City’s high capacity transit project because this portion of the alignment is not within the first phase of development, known as the Minimum Operable Segment (MOS).
The contents in Chapter IV: McCully-Mō`ili`ili (MM) – Town & Gown, A Multicultural Meeting Place are: University town Proposed proactive measures Affordable housing Proposed proactive measures Aging in place Proposed proactive measures What would be your recommendation(s) if we start work today? These are some comments from November 30 meeting: • Creating pedestrian walkways is good, but blocking the traffic to do that requires a lot of changes. I am not sure how this is going to happen. A detailed visual explanation may be necessary. • It (modify the University-King-Beretania intersection and/or the Freeway access) will disrupt the traffic. • I do not live in MM, but I pass through this place. If you block one of the roads it will create problems. I want to see more details of how this is going to happen. • This (collaborative “University Town” association) has been tried for more than 10 years • We will not collaborate with the university. We don’t want students who are rowdy and make noise • We don’t want to use the UH property if UH is going to use the MM space for student activities. • UH Manoa should be involved in University Town • UH should also evaluate optimum level of enrollment (not just housing) • It just says housing evaluation and it is going to be done by UH themselves. Community is not listed as one of the lead entities for campus housing • May be using the word “historic” might be better instead of “conservation” • There is no space to expand (“expand parks and open spaces”). May be expand is a wrong word. Shared use of parks with schools would be better. That is what we need. • We don’t want parking by displacing people. There is no space for parking. • We don’t want to create parking so that others come and park in our area. • Housing should not only be for elderly; develop housing for young married couples, and couples with children as well. • We don’t want this place to be for elderly only. We want people of all generations-kids and adults also living together. • Improving transportation facility would be difficult for elderly population with elevated rail at 60 feet above the ground. • Design of station will have a huge impact on how the neighborhood would look like. We need to know the details of the station – what would be size of the station, on which side of the road will it be, how high will it be, how will the access be from the ground to the station. How can we talk about Transit oriented development without knowing all these details? • The station will take away many properties. We need to know how much of our property will go for station. If the station takes a lot of space, we won’t have any property to develop. • Displacement is there but here it is not as serious as in Kaka’ako. Please continue with your comments: |
