Hawai’i Alliance for Community-Based Economic Development (HACBED) grew out of the Hawaiian Renaissance, arising a need for capacity and movement-building action for communities to have a strong voice in determining their future. Over the last century, there have been tremendous forces that have steered the destiny of communities — land loss, eviction, language loss, occupation. YET, these same forces have given rise to community resilience, resistance, and innovation. Communities are experts in their context, and continue to put forth innovative solutions to some of Hawaiʻi’s most pressing problems. HACBED supports and uplifts community voice and collective action. We believe: when we have space to listen to one another, weave our knowledge and gifts, gather adequate resources, support and try out good ideas — we thrive.
The Community-Based Economic Development (CBED) Project Associate will support HACBED efforts within its focus areas of Intergenerational Knowledge Evolution, ‘Āina & Food Justice, and Community-Driven Institutional Support. The Project Associate will work to support HACBED’s organizational focus on building partnerships in community and cross-collaboration across sectors to lift up community voice and build capacity by using organizing, planning, and strategic network building approaches.
